Ackland Art Museum Guild
The Ackland Art Museum Guild is an organization of Ackland
members dedicated to helping the Museum fulfill its mission
of using original works of art to educate, animate, and inspire
visitors. The Ackland Guild sponsors projects and events that
make friends, raise funds, and build goodwill for the Museum.
The Guild meets as a full group twice yearly, once in the
Fall and once in the Spring. Throughout the year, members participate
in events hosted by the Guild. Guild membership offers the
opportunity to meet and mingle with others who appreciate
art and recognize the value and importance of the Ackland in
the community.
Join the Guild and translate your art enthusiasm
into practice.

RALEIGH: INNOVATION AND DESIGN
Wednesday, April 9
8:30 AM to 5 PM
Featuring a visit to North Carolina State University's College of Textiles on the Centennial Campus and the Gregg Museum of Art & Design.
You may be surprised to know that in the midst of the decline of textile manufacturing in North Carolina, the College of Textiles is recognized throughout the world as a center of innovation in the area of fabric design, especially in the area of non-woven fabric, and in various areas of design and application of fabric, including fashion design.
We have a unique opportunity to spend the morning with Dr. A. Blanton Godfrey, Dean of the College, who with contributions from some of the students will lead a tour of the College facility. They will share examples of the trailblazing work now underway at the college. You'll begin to understand why the graduates of this program, drawn from around the world are highly sought for employment within the textile industry worldwide.
And we have plans to introduce to you a mystery guest, one of the College's best-known collaborators.
Lunch will be at the private NC State Club, nearby on the Centennial Campus.
In the afternoon, we'll be the guests of Dr. Charlotte Brown, Director of the Gregg Museum of Art & Design and author of The Remarkable Potters of Seagrove. Dr. Brown will give us a tour of the Gallery's two current shows. The first "Pamela & Vernon Owens, Potters of Jugtown" celebrates the Owens' 25 years of ownership of Jugtown in Seagrove, NC, one of the most important working potteries in America.
The second show is an exhibition of furniture titled "Randy Shull: Crossing Boundaries". Shull, from Asheville, NC, is one of the region's best designers and makers of furniture working today.
We'll return to Chapel Hill by 5:00 PM, following a stimulating day learning about creative work being done in our state.
