Wendy Ewald is a photographer, writer and teacher who has worked collaboratively with children around the world. In 1997 and 1998 she spent time working with children ages eight to thirteen in five different religious communities in central North Carolina. The work of those young photographers is featured on this website, as well as in the Visions of Faith exhibition.

Ewald's work has been published and exhibited widely, including in the 1998 Whitney Biennial. She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 1992. Ewald is the founding director of Literacy through Photography, a program which serves Durham public schools through Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies. She divides her time between Durham and Rhinebeck, New York, where she lives with her husband Tom McDonough and three-year-old son, Michael.
