Wendy Ewald is a
photographer, writer and teacher who has worked collaboratively
with children around the world. In 1997 and 1998 she spent time
working with children ages eight to thirteen in five different
religious communities in central North Carolina. The work of
those young photographers is featured on this website, as well
as in the Visions of Faith exhibition.
Ewald's work has been published
and exhibited widely, including in the 1998 Whitney Biennial.
She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 1992. Ewald is the
founding director of Literacy through Photography, a program
which serves Durham public schools through Duke University's
Center for Documentary Studies. She divides her time between
Durham and Rhinebeck, New York, where she lives with her husband
Tom McDonough and three-year-old son, Michael.
