Programs for University Students at the Ackland Art Museum
The Ackland Art Museum is happy to offer a variety of ways to enhance teaching, research and public service at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Ackland houses an important and comprehensive collection of more than 15,000 works of art, ranging from ancient to modern. The Museum is especially rich in European painting and sculpture of the 15th - 19th centuries and in Asian painting and sculpture. The collections of drawings, prints and photographs are among the most significant in the Southeast.
Like a laboratory, the Ackland promotes innovative experimentation with instructional strategies, and like a library, the Ackland offers a rich fund of teaching resources to enrich the classroom experience. As a museum, the Ackland's multi-cultural collections provide opportunities to demonstrate the diversity and breadth of academic enterprises undertaken at UNC-Chapel Hill that benefit the University and town communities.
The Ackland's collaborations with members of the university community take many forms: gallery lessons tailored to specific course objectives, research projects by undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty, exhibitions and more. Select from the menu at left for more information about some of these possibilities, or call the Director of Academic Programs to discuss them in more detail.
