Vasudeva carried the girl to his own house, put her in to Devaki's bed and lay down there as before. Hearing the crying of a child, the guards rose up and told Kamsa of Devaki's delivery. Going at once to her side, Kamsa seized the little girl. Devaki tried to prevent him with strangled cries of 'Let go! Let go,' but he dashed the baby onto a rock. (1978:110)
