| Here a contrast is presented between the love and romance that appears in Paris and the loneliness that some people endure. Known as the city of romance, not all Parisians fall into this category. Instead, many tend to be alone and feel despair in Paris, contradicting the joy and happiness that foreigners assume. This category also includes the contrast between the old and the young. Older people seem to be lonelier and less joyful than the young. The Kiss, by Doisneau, seems to epitomize Paris to most foreigners, falling into the city of romance category. On the other hand, the old woman in Boubat’s Place St. Sulpice represents the extreme loneliness that can be encountered on a random corner in the city of Paris. |
