Artist's Statement

This current body of work touches upon border politics and cultural fragmentation. A fronterizo (border citizen) since birth, I feel compelled to depict the complexities of my often misrepresented home and the notion of living 'in between,' within a gray area. In piecing these works together, I am recreating a space," a home away from home," and simultaneously exploring issues such as immigration, assimilation, and media representation of the Latino/Hispanic community. Like fragmented memories and experiences, the works are assembled with a 'mishmash' of chaotic imagery and a dash of Tex-Mex flavor.
