Through drawing and painting, I articulate personal memories of my family and upbringing. I rely on these visual mediums to record and reorder ineffable memories which provide a starting point for fictional narratives in my work. Borrowing from the illustrative style of picture books, and from their subtle didactic morality, my work finds techniques for developing a powerful and subtle, visual voice.
My narratives center on the patriarchal family system and inherited religious culture of my youth; and, in practice, seek relevant responses to my experiences and memories. Painting and drawing allow me the means to express a complex critique that eludes the spoken and written word.
