Point is from a series of works called photoglyphs, a term combining the Greek words for "light" and "carvings." The series, begun in 1989, is based on the couple's synthesis of photography and sculpture with mythology, performance, and poetry. The artists' works are based on the concept that "unity comes from a fusion of duality."

The circle, with its associations of balance and totality, and the ritualistic practice of body painting express the couple's interest in spiritual mysticism and transcendence. Point clearly relates to the Hindu bindu or third eye, which is a mark of clairvoyance and blessing from the gods. Describing this work, Gerlovin and Gerlovina write: "Point is to use the mind to go beyond the mind."
