In addition to our ongoing program series, the Ackland offers a number of special programs for adults and children.

Spring Luncheon

The Carolina Inn

The Friends of the Ackland invite you to lunch at The Carolina Inn in conjunction with the exhibition New Currents in Contemporary Art: MFA 2012.
Emily Kass will give welcoming remarks and a preview of the upcoming year of exhibitions.

Lunch will be followed by the opportunity to view the MFA 2012 exhibition with the eight participating artists, who will be available to talk about their work.

Tickets are $50 ($25 deductible) and may be purchased at the Ackland Museum Store, either in person or by phone: 919.962.0216.


"Take Two" Tours - NEW!

A pair of experts leads a guided, conversational tour through one or more of the current exhibitions, approaching the art on view from different angles. Free and open to the public.

Hands-On Workshops for Adults

Watercolor Workshop  - CANCELED
Saturday, 5 May, 1:00 – 5:00 PM

Following a guided exploration of Thornton Dial’s works on paper at the Ackland, participants will try their hand at watercolors in a nearby studio. Amanda Hughes leads this workshop for teens and adults.

Beginners are welcome. Bring your own materials; a list will be provided upon registration. Mid-afternoon snack provided.

Ackland Travel Committee

Throughout the fall and spring, the Ackland Travel Committee plans trips to local and regional art venues for Ackland members. On "Away for the Day" trips, designed for Ackland Members at all levels, participants explore the arts in places like Charlotte, Richmond, and Winston-Salem. "Travel Outings" offer exclusive access to local museums and galleries for Ackland members at the Contributor level ($125) and above.
