For more than 20 years, the Ackland has supported K-12 classroom teachers with a wide range of educational opportunities, both in the Museum and in the classroom. Our goal is to engage students with experiences that directly support teachers' objectives in visual arts, language arts, social studies, and other subjects outlined within the North Carolina Essential Standards.
In the Museum galleries, guided tours engage students in interactive, fun activities that reinforce the academic skills and subject matter they are learning in the classroom. Guided tours encourage lively discussions about works in the Ackland’s collection and include activities for all kinds of learners. Click here for tour details.
If teachers want a richer educational experience, the Ackland can provide a series of museum visits for K-12 students or teachers may attend an Ackland workshop, in which they learn strategies for incorporating art into their classroom.
With support from the Lord Corporation, the Ackland has a limited number of transportation scholarships available. Teachers and administrators are encouraged to contact Caroline Culbert, Assistant for Academic Programs, for more information at culbert@unc.edu or 919.962.3342.
